Kanchipuram is the north-eastern district of
Tamilnadu adjacent to the Bay of Bengal. The district has some of
the very popular tourist places of Tamilnadu like the Temple town of
Kanchipuram, Mahabalipuram or Mamallapuram, Vedanthangal Bird
Sanctury, Muttukadu lake, and Dakshina Chithra.
The place finds its name in Patanjali's Mahabhashya,
written in the second century B.C. Kancheepuram District was ruled
by the Pallavas, Cholas, Vijayanagar rulers, Muhammadan Kings, and
the British before Independence. Kanchi was the capital of the
Pallavas who ruled over the territory extending from the river
Krishna in the north to the river Kaveri in the south.
Kanchi was a major seat of Tamil learning as well as
an important place of pilgrimage for Buddhists, Jains and Hindus.

temples which reflects the Glorious Traditions of South India with
