Computer Education
Computer education in Tamil Nadu has come a long way since its inception in the early 1980s. The state government of Tamil Nadu was one of the first to recognize the importance of computer education and took steps to introduce it in schools and colleges.
The history of computer education in Tamil Nadu can be traced back to 1982 when the state government set up the Centre for Electronics Design and Technology (CEDT) in Chennai. CEDT was established to provide training in the field of electronics and computer technology.
In the early 1990s, the state government introduced computer education in schools as an optional subject. However, it was not until the mid-1990s that computer education was made mandatory in all schools in Tamil Nadu.
The state government also established the Tamil Nadu State Council for Computer Education (TNSCST) in 1988 to promote computer education in the state. TNSCST offers computer education programs at various levels, including certificate courses, diploma courses, and degree programs.
Tamil Nadu has also been a pioneer in the field of e-governance, with the state government implementing various e-governance initiatives. The state government has set up the Tamil Nadu e-Governance Agency (TNeGA) to implement e-governance projects in the state.
Today, computer education has become an integral part of the education system in Tamil Nadu, and the state is home to many reputed institutions offering courses in computer science and engineering. Some of the notable institutions include the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, Anna University, and the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Trichy.
