Government Projects

Here are some major projects initiated by the Government of Tamil Nadu for the welfare of the people:

Amma Unavagam: This is a scheme that provides subsidized food to the poor and needy. Under this scheme, low-cost canteens are set up across the state where people can get nutritious food at very low prices.

Amma Water: This scheme provides safe drinking water to people in urban and rural areas. Under this scheme, water treatment plants and distribution systems are set up to ensure that people have access to clean and safe water.

Amma Scooter Scheme: This is a scheme that provides women with scooters at subsidized rates. Under this scheme, women can purchase scooters at a lower price, making it easier for them to travel and commute to work.

Amma Two Wheeler Scheme: This is a scheme that provides financial assistance to women to purchase two-wheelers. This scheme is aimed at empowering women by making them independent and self-reliant.

Amma Pharmacies: This is a scheme that provides affordable medicines to people. Under this scheme, pharmacies are set up across the state where people can buy medicines at very low prices.

Free Laptop Scheme: This is a scheme that provides free laptops to students studying in government schools and colleges. This scheme is aimed at promoting education and making it more accessible to students from economically weaker sections.

Tamil Nadu Housing Board: This is a scheme that provides affordable housing to the poor and needy. Under this scheme, houses are built for people who cannot afford to buy or rent a house.

Smart City Projects: The Tamil Nadu government has launched several smart city projects in Chennai, Coimbatore, and other cities. These projects are aimed at improving the quality of life of people by providing better infrastructure, transport, and public services.

  • Pudhu Vazhvu Project : Pudhu Vaazhvu Project is an empowerment and poverty alleviation project implemented by the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj department of Government of Tamilnadu with World Bank assistance
  • Domestic and Export Market Intelligence Cell, Tamilnadu : The Market Intelligence Cell will display data on arrival and transaction of important agricultural commodities in the Regulated Markets in Tamil Nadu made available through AGMARKNET.
  • Tamilnadu Road Sector Project : Government of Tamil Nadu, realising the need to extend the benefits of development to the villages of Tamil Nadu, decided to select the stretches of roads in 23 corridors for widening and strengthening to two lanes.
  • Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan : Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA)or “Anaivarukkum Kalvi Thittam” is an effort to universalize elementary education through community ownership of the schooling system
  • Animal Disease Infosystem of Tamil Nadu : Animal disease information for Tamil Nadu is a pilot effort to create an online information system and database for the effective prevention of diseases throughout the state.
  • Environmental Information System Centre : ENVIS is a decentralised system with a network of distributed subject oriented Centres ensuring integration of national efforts in environmental information collection, collation, storage, retrieval and dissemination to all concerned.
