Vijay's father S. A. Chandrasekhar is a popular director and mother Shobha is an accomplished playback singer. So he comes from a family which has strong cinema links. He is married to Snageetha who is the daughter of London based couple, Sornalingam and Nirmala, on August 25, 1999. They are blessed with a son, Jason Sanjay and a daughter, Divya Saasha.
