Chennai Central is the main railway station in Chennai City. It is on the side of EVR Periyar Salai and near to Parrys.
It is also the headquarters of Soutern Railway which covers Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry. Chennai Central is one of the most important railway hubs in South India. This railway station connects the city of Chennai to some of the major cities of India like New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Jaipur, Lucknow, Patna and Thiruvananthapuram.
Chennai Central Railway Station is one of the most prominent landmark of the city, designed and built in 1873, by architect George Harding. The then Madras Central was part of South Indian Railway Company during the British rule.
