Situated on the banks of the Cauveri, Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary is located near Mysore in Karnataka. Ranganthittu is a favorite abode for birds.
Boating is available for tourists in the lake to have a closer view of the birds. Be careful not to put your hands in the water while boating as the river has crocodiles.
The sanctuary is quite popular both among Indian and foreign tourists. Birds that come all the way from Siberia, Australia and even North America.
Best time to visit is June - October. Wodeyar kings of Mysore to declare the area a wildlife sanctuary in 1940.
