Thiruvannamalai is a famous temple city and the Lord Arunachaleswarar Temple is the abode of Lord Shiva. Shiva is worshiped in the form of Fire here and Thiruvannamalai is one of the Panchabhoota Sthalam.

This temple is known for its massive Gopurams. The Eastern Rajagopuram is a 11 tiered structure which depicts the ancient architectural craftsmanship.

Thiruvannamalai is considered as a very sacred place. Many Yogis and Saints have lived here. Also the place is famous for Siddha medicine.

Thiruvannamalai Arunachaleswarar Temple is believed to be built between 9th and the 10th centuries by the Chola kings.

Thiruvannamalai Girivalam is very famous and this day falls on the full moon day every month. Karthigai Deepam is another important festival of the temple.
