Zimbabwe Information Minister Sikhanyiso Ndlovu on Friday said that the cholera outbreak in the Zimbabwe which killed more than 800 people was caused by a genocidal attack by UK.
"The cholera epidemic in Zimbabwe is a serious biological, chemical war force, a genocidal onslaught, on the people of Zimbabwe by the British. It's a genocide of our people," he told reporters.
On Friday Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe claimed that "there is no cholera in the country". But aid workers and United Nations warned that the situation is deteriorating day by day.
So far more than 800 deaths reported officially. Unofficial reports show that more than 60,000 people affected by cholera so far and the numbers are growing exponentially.
Experts say that this cholera outbreak is mainly due to the scarcity of safe drinking water. Due to financial problems government has stopped drinking water supply and this forced people to take dirty water from other sources.
At the same time people in Zimbabwe are suffering due to hyperinflation. Value of currency is depreciating day by day. To cope up with the high inflation Zimbabwe Central Bank introduced 500 million (50 crore) dollar note this week.
People are allowed to withdraw money from bank only once in a week, maximum allowed per week is 50 crore Zimbabwean dollar, that is almost equal to 500 India Rupees ! Last week it was valued 3500 Rupees, every day value of currency is going down.
People have to wait in front of the bank for hours or days to get this allowed amount. With that they can buy either one packet of salt or one soap. But at the same time if they skip one day's work then their family will starve the entire day.
Now the cholera outbreak added to the current chaos. But people are not allowed to speak anything against the government. If anybody speak then he/she will face harsh treatment by soldiers.
