The man, who uses his skills at winning bets, forms the protagonist of Balam. Aravind Vinod, a Video Jockey in a popular television channel, turns hero with this movie. This will also be the Tamil debut for Deepa Chari, a model from Mumbai, who has already done a Hindi film Kaboothar.

Director Muralikrishna who earlier directed movies like Paarvai Onre Pothume, Pesatha Kannum Pesum and Thirudiya Idhayathai is hopeful of Balam.

Filming is going on in Chennai.

Rahuman and Santhanam have also starred in this film. The high point of film is that the hero bets on the girl he loves. Whether he wins the bet or not forms the story. Rahuman has donned the role of an assistant police commissioner. Suhasini is the sister in law of hero.

Malaysia Vasudevan's son Yugendran debuts as music director. The lyricists in the film include Malaysia Vasudevan, Vivega, Yugendran and Muralikrishna. Balam will have five numbers, one sung by S.P.B.

Ganja Karuppu and Nellai Siva are among others in the cast.
