Not many filmmakers do shore on with such flicks with an appealing motif on their papers. Moreover, though you've such filmmakers, there aren't any producers ready to churn it out. Hats off to Director Rakeysh and UTV Productions for a stupendous film that touches everyone's hearts⦠Remember Rakeysh and none would forget him. Such was his trenchant work for his previous film 'Rang De Basanthi' that invigorated the theme of National pride amongst young rebels. Perhaps, don't expect 'Delhi 6' to be so alike striding on the same paths. This time, it's all about spotlighting on Puran Shehar Dilli â Jyadha se Log ke liya yeh sab naya hai⦠Of course, many in New Delhi themselves would have witnessed the exotic location of Chandni Chowk Streets in Delhi. The finest Jelabhi Shops, Pan Masalas, people with good hearts and more.
Roshan (Abhishek Bachchan) fleets from New York to Chandni Chowk as his grand mother wishes to spend her last days in her hometown. The land is so new to Roshan but sooner, he's so adhered to the street corners with Uncle Ali (Rishi Kapoor) playing snookers with him. His days are blended with fun, happiness where peoples of all the communities are so closer to him. But, there are few things that lets him perplexed. Why his uncles (Om Puri, Pawan Malhotra) have raised walls in their home? Why the neighborhood police man (Vijay Raaz) is so arrogant all the time, Why firebrand Imarthi (Divya Dutta) is an untouchable and more. With his questions, his days pass on. Along with this, the director has included the longtime back incident of 'Kala Bandhar' â Black Monkey (Years back in Delhi, there was a mysterious creature named 'Monkey Man' troubling incident) and how it plays a vital role in the entangled situations is all rest of the film about.
Abhishek Bachchan seems to be more intellectual picking up scripts that are so enriching and that don't depict him in larger than life roles. He has handled the characterization of Roshan so perfectly. Sonam Kapoor is so matured with her performance when compared to her debut flick 'Saawariya'. Rishi Kapoor, Om Puri and all the performers including Divya Dutta, Vijay Raaz have done a splendid job.
As mentioned earlier, Rakeysh has splendidly added the theme of reality by pulling the abstract of Stage Play 'Ramayana' and 'Kala Bandhar' issue. It speaks more on communal imbalance in the society, how politicians are more dominant that Gods.
Musical Score by A.R. Rahman is mind-boggling and every song is really stupefying, especially the number 'Masakali'. Cinematography adds more to the visual quality where he gets a different tone of color on the screens.
On the whole, Delhi 6 is a splendiferous movies that is worth watching. It's something more than film. It takes us straight into the streets of Delhi â 1100006.. Trust us and watch this film.
Verdict: Extraordinary.
