Israeli army intensified ground and air strikes on the Gaza strip for the tenth consecutive day. So far 514 people killed including many civilians and more than 2600 people injured.
Hospitals in the Gaza are filled with patients and there is severe shortage of essential medicines, food and fuel in the Gaza and people are hiding inside their homes fearing more air attacks.
Thousands of Israeli troops, backed by tanks and helicopter pushed into Gaza, effectively splitting the city in to two. The Israeli army began a ground operation on Saturday night, eight days after Israeli warplanes carried out intensive air strikes on hundreds of targets.
Twenty-eight Palestinians have been killed in Israel's ground offensive since Sunday night.
"Large numbers of forces are taking part in this stage of the operation including infantry, tanks, engineering forces, artillery and intelligence," an Israeli military spokesman said.
An Israeli jet hit a mosque in the northern town of Jabaliya, killing at least 16 people among more than 200 people at prayer on Sunday.
French President Nicolas Sarkozy and a European Union delegation were expected to arrive in the region Today to push for a truce.
