Vijay debuted as hero in film Naalaya Thirpu in the year 1992.

Ilayathalapathi commenced his acting career with the films produced and directed by his father S. A. Chandrasekhar. Though he had a slump beginning, Vijay accelerated his graph upward through his later movies and procured the image of the boy next door through flicks like Poove Unakaga, Rasigan, Love Today, Nerrukku Ner, Kadhalukku Mariyadhai, Thulladha Manamum Thullum, Kushi, Friends etc.

Then he charted action oriented films Thirumalai, Ghilli, Tiruppachi, Pokkiri and excelled in building mass appeal.

Vijay's skill at dance and fight has made him the ace among young stars.

Vijay has completed a major portion of his 49th film Vettaikaran, which is going to release on Diwali this year. His 48th film was Villu.

There is high probability that Vijay’s 50th film will be produced by Sangili Murugan, who gifted him stardom with Fazil’s Kathalikku Mariyadai.

The director
The director for this film has not been fixed yet. There was news that Jayam Raja would direct Vijay’s film. Perarasu who had earlier directed Vijay films Tiruppachi and Sivakasi is also being considered. Apart from these directors some new directors are also meeting Vijay for his 50th film.

Vijay has intention to give chance to director Siddique who earlier did Friends together. Siddique when approached presented a comedy and action mixed story weaved on a serious theme. Vijay showed his interest. Since Siddique is doing a Dileep film in Malayalam he needed more time.

Title
The title of the film is yet to be finalized. There is a plan to borrow the title of an MGR film or a slogan from any of his hit songs.

Vijay is eager on having his 50th film titled as Enga Veettu Pillai after MGR’s cult hit. But acquiring this title might raise problem as it has already been registered by Sundar C. Vijay is expected to meet Sundar C soon.

Tamanna will be pairing with Vijay in this film. The cast is yet to be decided. There are surmises that Sneha is to play one of the heroines in the film.

Elaborate arrangements are being brought in to produce this big budgeted film. The shooting of the film will commence immediately after the release of Vettaikaran. Anyway Ilayathalapathy Vijay’s 50th Golden Jubilee film is going to be an event.
