The upcoming Tamil movie 'Karikalan' is a period movie directed by L. I. Kannan. Karikalan has Vikram and Zarine Khan in the leading roles.

Karikalan is made simultaneously in Tamil and Telugu. In Telugu, the film is titled as 'Veerudu'. Anjali, Pasupathy, Radhika Apte and Ananya are also in important roles in this Tamil drama film.

Vikram dons the role of Karikala Chola, one of the greatest Chola Kings during the Sangam period. Zarine Khan and Pooja Chopra are playing the character Velir princess (during different times). Ananya play the character Manasa Karikala Chola.

Karikalan is produced by S. S. Vasan & S. Parthi under the banner of Silver Line Film Factory. A. R. Gandhi Krishna writes the story. G. V. Prakash Kumar is the music director. N. Karthik handles camera, while editing is by T. S. Suresh.

Karikalan started shooting and some portions have been completed in Thalakonam Forests in Andhra Pradesh. The film will have a lot of special effects and computer graphics.

The lead actress Zarine Khan had earlier appeared in the Bollywood movie 'Veer' opposite Salman Khan. The director L. I. Kannan, had earlier handled special effects in movies like Enthiran, Eeram, Anniyan, Ghajini and Sivakasi. So film lovers can expect a lot of special effects in this movie as well.
