Bharath Bala of 'Vande Maataram' fame directs Dhanush starrer Mariyaan. The film has Parvathi Menon as the female lead. Music is by Oscar winner A. R Rahman. Mariyaan is produced by Aascar Ravichandran under the banner Aascar Films.

Mariyaan started shooting in Namibia and the shooting done on various locations like Nagerkoil and other places in Africa.

Dhanush dons the role of a construction site worker in Mariyaan, while Parvathy Menon of 'Poo' fame is his love interest 'Panimalar'. Salim Kumar, the national award winning actor, is roped in to play another important role in this flick.

The theme song of Mariyaan was filmed with the leading pair in the coastal desert of Namibia. A R Rahman has sung a song in the film. Marc Koninckx handles camera.

Mariyaan is shot in reverse, with the climax shot first and the first scene shot at the last.

Mariyaan shooting is complete and is into post production works. The film release is expected in June 2013.
