Rajnikant's next venture Rana is the most expected movie in the coming year. The film went on Floors on April 29th at the Pillayar Koil inside the AVM Studios in Chennai.

Director Panchu Arunachalam clapped the board. R M Veerappan switched on the camera. The first shot was directed by the Dada Saheb Phalke award winner K Balachander who has launched Rajnikant into the films.

Co-produced by Sunil Lulla and Rajnikant's younger daughter Soundarya Rajnikant, Rana is under the banner Eros International & Rana Production Ltd UK.

Director K.S. Ravikumar is very excited over the new project, in which the superstar is said to play three different roles. Bollywood sensation Deepika Padukone will play the female lead opposite Rajnikant.

Ileana and Tabu are also expected to be on the cast. Sonu Sood will play the villain. Madhuri Dixit and Rekha had walked out of the project earlier.

Music for Rana is composed by none other than Oscar Winner A.R. Rahman. Lyrics are penned by Vairamuthu. R. Ratnavelu cranks the camera.

Rana is a period film which will be made simultaneously in Tamil and Hindi and will be dubbed in Telugu. Rana is a huge budget movie.

The shooting of the film started with a song picturization with Deepika. As Rajnikant is not well after the pooja, their combination scenes will be shot later. The film is expected to grace silver screens by 2012.
