Gautam Menon's super hit police story Kakka Kakka was released in 2003. It instantly became hit and soon was remade in Telugu as Gharshana with Venkatesh and Asin in the lead roles. The film offered a new dimension for actors like Daniel Balaji and Jeevan.
The makers planned to remake the flick in Hindi and approached Sunny Deol.
The film was announced in 2007, but things didn't materialize and was put on hold. Later, Feroze Khan bought the rights to cast his son Fardeen in the lead.
But when Feroz Khan died in 2007 news ceased about the remake. Later Vipul and Goutham tried to buy the rights back from Fardeen Khan.
Now the news is John Abraham is cast as the hero in Hindi remake and Gautham to direct and Vipul Shah to produce. The film is expected to hit the floors later this year
There was also news earlier that Ajay Devgan tried for the remake rights with zero result, he later settled for Malayalam film Puthiyamugham remake.
Kaakha Kaakha which had Jyothika as heroine was produced by Kalaipuli. S. Thanu. Now Thanu claims to produce the Hindi version. He has approached Salman Khan and Deepika Padukone for the main characters and they have shown interest in the flick.
Thanu's version is this,"I have planned to produce this film in Hindi. I have not given remake rights to anyone. We (Firoz Khan and he) entered into an agreement and an advance was also paid. But after Janasheen turned out to be a debacle at the BO, he was not prepared to take up another film. He promptly called me and said that he was unable to pay the rest of the amount and was willing to cancel the agreement too and we decided to part ways. I am planning to remake the flick, not Vipul." he asserts.
After the Hindi versions of Ghajini and Pokkiri (Wanted in Hindi) became hits, Bollywood czars are in to remaking South Indian films.
Gowtham have been planning to remake Kaakha Kaakha and Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu in Hindi. He has even accepted an advance from Vipul Shah for Hindi Kaakha Kaakha. Gautham Menon first tasted Bollywood with Minnale remake as Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein with Madhavan and Dia Mirza in the lead.
Bollywood may witness a fight between producers soon.
