Guindy
National Park and Snake Park are in Guindy and is an important
picnic spot for anyone with family. It has a good number of Black
Bucks, Civet Cats, Jackals, Spotted Deer, Mongoose and Monkeys. The
Black Bucks (Indian antelope) are endangered species. You can find
them in this
National Park.
The Deer Park and the Snake Park are
supported by the World Wildlife Fund. They are located in the Raj
Bhavan premises at
Guindy, within the city limits. This is the smallest National Park
in India. Guindy National Park has about 24 varieties of trees.

One end of the park is Raj Bhavan and the other end is the famous
Indian Institute of Technology(IIT), Chennai. Adjacent to the
National Park is the Snake Park. This park is house for a large
number of Snakes from the deadly King Cobra to Vipers, Python and
other reptiles. There are preserved specimens of reptiles in the
park and they are a great attraction to the visitors and tourists.
There are descriptions for every species of snakes. The Snake Park
publishes periodicals.
Adjacent to the Snake Park is the Children's Park. This park has a
number of animals and birds and a park for Kids. Different species
of animals like Antelopes, Monkeys, spotted deer and Indian Civet
cats are housed here.
People can visit the park the year around. Guindy National Park
attracts about 3 lakh people during a season. The parks are open
daily, except Tuesday, 8.30 am to 5 pm.
